What Dreams May Come

Vincent Ward’s 1998 movie oddly coalesces death-throughout-life and life-through-death.

When Chris Neilson (a wonderful Robin Williams) dies he finds himself in a unique place: His own heaven. Something is missing though; he cannot find his wife. Chris boldly, and against all odds, decides to look for his other half, Annie Collins-Nielsen (Annabella Sciorra), even if he has to go down to hell.

Why is she in hell? Sorry, I never give away details that might spoil the plotline for you.

Borrowing elements from Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy Wards’s movie is an effervescent tableau that will draw a smile on your faces the same way it will draw tears from your eyes with its theme about love even after death.

What Dreams May Comes, which is based on a book by the same title by Richard Matheson, is a visual euphoria that manifests itself the moment Chris opens his eyes to find himself surrounded by bright oil colors.
